Description
The health care industry has volumes of medical records to store, maintain and protect and is in need of trained professionals. A medical records career balances medical knowledge and organizational and administrative skills.
Our Medical Records Administrator Diploma program will provide you with the academic and practical training you need to become a guardian of personal medical records.
This 33-week diploma program at Vancouver Career College trains students to oversee medical records in locations such as health ministries, insurance companies, hospitals and research centers. In addition to learning disease classifications and medical terminology, students learn the protocols for handling personal medical records. They become comfortable with the Health Information Management program and learn how to collect, file, process, monitor and protect health information.
Additional courses examine confidentiality and review federal privacy legislation, which determines the guidelines of releasing personal information. Computer skills, office and front desk practices, and creating a sustainable workplace are other course topics.
At the end of the program, you will participate in a 125-hour practicum in your field of study. This hands-on experience will prepare you for a career as a health records technician, medical records clerk or medical receptionist, among other jobs.
