The Education Leadership online degree program at Jones International University® prepares key K 12 education leaders who serve as teachers, academic department chairpersons, and professional development personnel; administrators, principals, and superintendents; education faculty at institutions of higher education; researchers within organizations that create, implement, and/or evaluate education policy; and entrepreneurs who work with schools and other learning organizations.

Doctor of Education (EdD) in K 12 Education Leadership, one of online degree programs at Jones International University® has the mission is to graduate successful and influential K 12 leaders who are critical thinkers with exceptional knowledge, skills, and integrity who are able to apply theory to the creative and innovative solutions of practical education problems. The EdD is designed to be of service to both students and the learning organizations and communities that graduates serve.

This Education Leadership online degree program specialization aligns with the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) and Colorado Department of Education (CDE) professional standards and prepares students to become endorsed as principals and administrators.

In this Education Leadership online degree program, you will:

• demonstrate the ability to think critically about important education questions and problems concerning current K-12 education theories; systems of human inquiry and education research; public knowledge and public responsibility; leadership and the art of change management; the future of K-12 education and democracy; and K-12 education policy analysis for school leaders.
• demonstrate the knowledge (understanding), dispositions (beliefs, values, and commitments), and performance (processes and activities) necessary to be an effective education leader as explained in the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium’s “Standards for School Leaders”
• develop professionally meaningful synthesizing projects that demonstrate the ability to apply theory to the solutions of practical problems. The candidate also develops—by working closely with a mentor professor and dissertation committee—a creative and innovative dissertation that demonstrates the ability to research an important education question or problem.

Requirements

• The applicant must submit formal transcripts of relevant graduate work. The transcripts must document a minimum graduate cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in a field that has adequately prepared the applicant for success in Jones International University®’s doctoral program. The transcripts also must document completion of a master’s degree or its equivalent from an institution of higher education accredited by a regional association (or its international equivalent).
• The applicant must submit a well-written essay.
• The applicant must submit a resume that documents at least five years of professional experience.
• The applicant must submit three strong letters of recommendation from professionals who are familiar with his/her academic and/or field performance and who support the applicant entering the doctoral program.
